Washington State History Museum: 2019 Field Trip Scholarship Program

SelfGuidedFieldTrips_Girls.jpg

Get your students excited about the past with a field trip to the Washington State History Museum. Thousands of students come to the museum every year to explore how history connects us all. A field trip to the Washington State History Museum helps students make connections between past and present, see real objects from the past, and explore stories from throughout Washington State.

In 2019, WSHS launced a new field trip scholarship program to provide financial aid for underserved schools. Scholarships cover the entire cost of admission and transportation for school groups.

About the Program

Our field trip scholarships are intended to provide free visits for your class. They cover the entire cost of admission for students, chaperones and teachers + the cost of transportation (based on a cost estimate provided in your application).

These scholarships are only for students in schools where 50% or more of students receive free or reduced-price lunches. If you are not sure if this applies to you, please check by looking your school up on the OSPI's  Washington Public School Free and Reduced-Price Meal Eligibility spreadsheet.

Timeline:

·         Applications for the first round of scholarships are due October 11, 2019. Applicants will be notified by Oct. 25, 2019.  We will then work with applicants to book their field trips for dates on or after Nov. 12, 2019.

·         Applications for the second round of scholarships are due January 10, 2020. Applicants will be notified by Jan. 24, 2020.  We will then work with applicants to book their field trips for dates on or after February 11, 2020.

·         We encourage applicants to bring their students on a field trip to the museum before March, especially if they are applying for the first round of scholarships. The spring is a busy time of year for field trips, so scheduling your trip earlier in the year will help your students have a more productive learning experience.
